Who Are Women?

Who are women? They’re the ones who make the babies, and raise the families, right? Don’t they deserve to be treated just as equal as men? Recently I have read an  article called “Sisters in Arms” by James Dao about the disadvantages to women during the different wars in the U.S over the years, and how they have just came into equality, meaning that they began to give the women equal rights.

In the article, Dao talks about how many women put themselves and their families in jeopardy by joining the U.S army. Speaking about a woman named Sergeant Pearsall, Dao said “in the midst of the chaos, she had noticed a fallen soldier. She crawled to the man who was 6-foot-2 and more than 200 pounds. Though he was twice her weight, she managed to drag him into the armored safety of the carrier.” Basically, Sergeant Pearsall put her life on the line to save a fallen soldier. Not only did she put her life on the line, but if she’d had a family at home, and she had been injured or killed trying to rescue someone else. At home, she would’ve had her family worried sick. Someone would’ve lost a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a friend, all because of her heroic act.

Also in the article, Dao talks about how, Greg Jacob, who is a former U.S Marine Corps officer supports the change of women now being accepted into the U.S army. Jacob says, “When the military goes to full integration, it allows commanders to put the best person in the job, not just the best man… if the best shot in the platoon is a woman, I can make her a sniper. But until now, I couldn’t do that.” Greg Jacob makes it seem as though the acceptance of women in the U.S army is a good thing, because some things that men can do, women can do better. Also, already having multicultural men in the U.S army, and adding multicultural women shows the diversity in the United States.

I agree with Jacob. I think that some jobs should be more open to women. Some opportunities are more closed to women, and it isn’t very fair. I think that as far as the U.S army, women should be able to be put in any place that they would like to be in. It’s only fair that a woman should have equal opportunities because at the end of the day they’re all fighting in the war for the same reason. So why not just give any position to who deserves it?

2 Terms...(choice blog)

What do you know about Barack Obama? What do you know about the changes that he made to America since elected? Recently I have read an article called, “Four more years” by Patricia Smith about how Barack Obama managed to get reelected as president of the United States, and what led a lot of the U.S citizens to vote for him.
In the article, Smith gives her opinion on the reelection of Obama when she says “Obama no longer sparks the same enthusiasm that greeted his historic election in 2008 as the first black president.” I disagree. Because of Obama’s charismatic personality, and all of the achievements and changes that he made to this economy since he was elected into office the United States has become a more developed country.
Also in the article, Smith says, “Throughout the campaign, voters consistently said the economy was their top priority. While its not in the desperate shape it was in four years ago when Obama took office, the economy is still growing very slowly.” I think that the voters weren’t really in complete understanding with Obama’s “plan” for the country. Although the economy is slowly growing, I think that Obama can continuously improve the economy as long as he has this nation behind him.
I think that Obama was the right candidate chosen to be our president for the next four years because despite the bad things that people claim that Obama has done to the economy, he has also done a lot of good for the U.S. Obama has made sure that Osama Bin Laden was killed for all of the terrorist attacks that he had planned, and also he has created a less expensive insurance company called “Obamacare” so that more people can have life insurance. Its pretty obvious that Barack Obama cares about his peoples. I believe that he was the right choice for a second term in presidency.

CyberWAR...

Just imagine that you are sitting there typing up a plan, documents, spreadsheets, emails and files, and then all of a sudden there is an awkward silence and your computer shuts down and a picture of a burning American flag appeared. What if the documents that you were working on were the governments’ top secrets? What would you do? Who would you tell? Recently I have read an article called, “CyberWar” by Patricia Smith about how there have been many physical wars in the past, but now our country’s enemies have found a better way to “get even.”

In the article, Smith talks about a few “CyberWars” that have taken place, and the fear of them happening here in America. The hackers were smart, they were smooth, and they were swift. Smith says, “They knew that last August 15, more than 55,000 Saudi Aramco employees would be at home preparing for a Muslim holiday…at 11:08 , a computer virus began erasing data on 75 percent of Aramco’s corporate PC’s…” What Smith means by this is because majority of Saudi Arabia is Muslim, so most of them were at home celebrating the holiday. The attackers obviously knew that there would be low staff that day, which made the company open to attack.

Also in the article, Smith talks about the attacks conducted by the U.S. She says “The U.S has conducted Cyberattacks against adversaries, although it has never been publically admitted.” Which basically means that even though there were Cyberattacks conducted toward the U.S, in many perspectives, the U.S would have been wrong for their retaliation.

I think that the U.S had the right to conduct cyberattacks against other countries beforehand because they were starting preparation for retaliation ahead of time. If the U.S was cyberattacked, we would all probably be in great danger because they would take all over our government, our technology, and be able to take control of our incomes. My advice? Plan ahead. Only attack through cyberspace, or we’d all be dead.
